Translated by Stephan Delbos & Tereza Novická
For our second ‘Cultural Cut’ we are delighted to present an excerpt from a new (2016) translation – the first into English – of the Czech surrealist Vítězslav Nezval’s The Absolute Gravedigger, published in Prague by Twisted Spoon Press. As noted in the last issue, our Cultural Cuts aim to provide an additional dimension to the ways in which New Perspectives provokes new constellations of understanding. The in- tention is to prompt new ways of comprehending but also of apprehending the spark of imagination, the drive to exploration that can come from unusual and, perhaps, uncomfortable combinations of encounter.
